Both are dual-mechanism Osaki chairs, with separate rollers for the upper and lower body. The Kairos Duo uses a 5D upper mechanism, which its product page describes as using sensors to adjust depth, speed and pressure. It also lists more airbags (56 vs 44) and more automatic programs (20 vs 12). The Aeris is lighter (206.6 lbs. vs 284 lbs.) and narrower (30" vs 33" wide).
Is 5D worth $1,500 more?
It depends on what you value. For $1,500 more, the Kairos Duo gives you the 5D upper mechanism, 12 more airbags, 8 more automatic programs, a higher weight rating (280 lbs. vs 270 lbs.) and a listed 1" wall clearance. If those matter to you, the Kairos Duo is the stronger fit. If you want a dual-mechanism Osaki at the lowest price, the Aeris delivers that at $4,499. Read our Aeris 4D Duo review for more.
Which fits me?
The Kairos Duo lists a height range of 5'0" to 6'4" and a recommended weight of up to 280 lbs. Our spec table doesn't list a height range for the Aeris, so check its product page or ask an expert before you order if you're very tall. The Aeris lists 270 lbs.
For space, the Kairos Duo lists 1" from the wall; for the Aeris, see the product page or call 888-360-9996. The Aeris is longer (66" upright, 74.2" reclined), while the Kairos Duo is wider (33"). The Aeris is 30" wide and about 77 lbs. lighter, which can help with narrow doorways and stairs.

Standard shipping is curbside: it ships by freight to the 48 contiguous states, and the freight company delivers to a carport or first-floor entryway. From there, plan on two or more people to move the box inside, and measure every doorway, hallway turn and stair landing on the way to the room, not just the room itself. Assembly is required and can take 30 to 90 minutes, depending on the chair. Many product pages also list In-Home Delivery (inside your home, no stairs, just inside the doorway) and In-Home Delivery and Assembly; check the product page for the options and cost for your model. Once it's in place, leave the listed wall gap so the backrest can recline fully and leave room in front for the leg rest to extend. Check the owner's manual for power and outlet guidance before you plug it in. Try several programs in the first days so you can raise any fit questions early. If you return a chair, a return fee applies.
Ownership: warranty and care
- Osaki 5D+4D Kairos Duo: the listed warranty is 3 Year Limited Warranty; the upholstery is synthetic leather; the back pad is removable; the owner's manual can be downloaded from the product page.
- Osaki Aeris 4D Duo: the listed warranty is 3 Year Limited Warranty; the upholstery is synthetic leather; the owner's manual can be downloaded from the product page.
Read the warranty terms on the product page so you know what's covered and for how long. Keep the chair out of direct sun and away from heaters to protect the upholstery, and clean it the way the manual describes. If a pad is removable, take it off now and then to check for wear. Keep the remote and any power cords where they won't be stepped on or pinched by the recline.
Honest trade-offs
- Kairos Duo: a 5D/4D pairing. Check its height, weight and wall-gap specs in the table.
- Aeris 4D Duo: compare program count, airbags and heat line by line to see what the price difference buys.
- Both: dual-mechanism chairs are heavier than single-mechanism ones. Check the box size and weight.
