Certified Pre-Owned Massage Chairs: Are They Worth It?

A flagship massage chair can cost as much as a used car, so it's no surprise that more shoppers are asking us about pre-owned options. The good news is that a certified pre-owned (CPO) chair can put a high-end 4D or dual-mechanism massage within reach for a fraction of the original price. The catch is that "pre-owned" can mean very different things depending on where you buy.

This guide explains what "certified" actually means, how a CPO chair compares with buying new or buying used from a stranger, and how to tell whether CPO is the right move for you.

Prices below are our current prices as of October 12, 2026. They change often, so check each product page for the latest.

What Does "Certified Pre-Owned" Mean for a Massage Chair?

Think of it like a certified pre-owned car. It isn't just a used chair with a lower price tag. It's a chair that has gone back to the manufacturer's process, been checked and cleaned, and earned a written warranty before it's sold again.

For the Infinity and Kyota Certified Pre-Owned chairs we carry, here's how it works:

  • A 37-point inspection. The manufacturer's factory-trained technicians inspect every pre-owned chair on 37 points, even if it has never been used.
  • A deep clean and any needed repairs. Each chair gets a thorough deep clean, and anything that needs fixing is repaired.
  • Certification only after passing. Only chairs that pass the inspection qualify for the certified pre-owned warranty.

Why would a chair be "pre-owned" if it's never been used?

That's one of the most common questions we hear. A chair can come back into the system for reasons that have nothing to do with how it works, such as a return within a trial period, a display or demo unit, or a delivery that didn't work out. Because it can't be sold as brand new, it goes through the same inspection and certification as any other pre-owned chair.

Certified Pre-Owned vs. Used: Why "Certified" Matters

Buying a used chair from a classified ad or a neighbor might look cheaper at first. But a massage chair is a complex machine with motors, airbags, rollers, sensors and electronics, so the details matter.

Certified Pre-Owned (from us) Private-party used chair
Inspection 37 points, by the manufacturer's factory-trained technicians Whatever the seller tells you
Cleaning and repairs Deep clean plus any necessary repairs As-is
Warranty 1 year in-home parts & labor, 2 years parts, 4 years structural framework Often none; many manufacturer warranties only cover the original buyer, so check the terms
Tech support Free lifetime tech support from a nationwide network of 100% U.S.-based technicians Usually none
Delivery Free standard shipping to your home You arrange (and move) it yourself
Try it at home Covered by our 30 Day In-Home Trial Rarely

That delivery line is easy to overlook. Premium chairs are heavy. The Kyota Yutaka M898 4D, for example, has a listed shipping weight of 367 lbs. Getting one out of someone's house and into yours, without damaging the chair, your walls or your back, is a real job.

How Does the CPO Warranty Compare to New?

This is where certified pre-owned really earns its keep. The certified pre-owned warranty on our Infinity and Kyota CPO chairs is:

  • 1 year of in-home parts & labor
  • 2 years of parts
  • 4 years of structural framework coverage
  • Free lifetime tech support from a nationwide network of 100% U.S.-based technicians

For Kyota, that's the same manufacturer's warranty the new chairs carry: 1 year in-home service, 2 years parts and 4 years structural framework. Extended warranty options are also listed on each chair's Warranty tab, and our experts can walk you through them. You can read more about how coverage works across brands on our Warranty Information page.

How Much Can You Save?

Here's what our Certified Pre-Owned chairs look like today:

Chair CPO price Regular price You save
Infinity Evo Max 4D (CPO) $1,999 $10,999 $9,000 (81%)
Kyota Yutaka M898 4D (CPO) $3,499 $11,999 $8,500 (70%)
Infinity Imperial Syner-D (CPO) $7,999 $15,999 $8,000 (50%)
Kyota Nokori M980 Syner-D (CPO) $7,999 $11,999 $4,000 (33%)

Two of these are also sold new on our site, which makes for an easy side-by-side. The Kyota Yutaka M898 4D is $9,999 new versus $3,499 certified pre-owned, a $6,500 difference. The Kyota Nokori M980 Syner-D is $11,999 new versus $7,999 certified pre-owned.

To put that in perspective, $1,999 is entry-level money for a new full-body chair. Our massage chair price guide breaks down what each budget typically buys. At that price, the CPO Evo Max gives you 4D rollers on a 49" L-Track, a frame that fits users from 5'2" to 6'9", and three color options.

You can see every chair we currently have in this program on our Certified Pre-Owned listing.

What You Get in a Premium CPO Chair

The real value of certified pre-owned is that it opens up features usually reserved for higher price tiers:

4D rollers

4D rollers don't just move up, down and in and out. They also change speed and rhythm, which makes the massage feel more like human hands. The Evo Max 4D and Yutaka M898 4D both use 4D quad rollers. If you're new to the terms, our 2D vs 3D vs 4D guide explains the difference.

L-Track and Flex Track designs

An L-Track carries the rollers down your back and under your glutes for fuller coverage. The Evo Max and Yutaka use a 49" L-Track, while the Nokori M980 uses a Flex Track that combines L and S shapes. Learn more in S-Track vs. L-Track and our SL Flex Track explainer.

Dual mechanisms

The Imperial and Nokori use Syner-D dual mechanisms: two synchronized roller systems, with the upper one focused on your neck, shoulders and upper back and the lower one working from the mid-back through the glutes. The result is smoother, more continuous coverage along the spine. Kyota calls the Nokori M980 the flagship of its lineup, which is why $4,000 off stands out.

Zero gravity and space-saving

All of these chairs recline to zero gravity, which raises your legs and takes pressure off your spine. Curious how it works? See What Is Zero Gravity Recline? The Yutaka and Imperial also use a Zero Wall Fit design that needs only about 2" of wall clearance, and the Nokori needs about 4".

Is a Certified Pre-Owned Massage Chair Right for You?

CPO is a great fit if:

  • You want flagship features on a mid-range budget. A 4D or dual-mechanism chair for about the cost of a new entry-level model is hard to beat.
  • You value a real warranty. You get written coverage and lifetime tech support, which you won't get from a private sale.
  • You're flexible on model and color. CPO inventory is whatever has passed certification, so selection changes, and some chairs sell out (our Infinity Dynasty 4D CPO is sold out right now).

Buying new may make more sense if:

  • You want a specific model, color or the latest release. New gives you the full catalog.
  • You want a particular brand's longer new-chair warranty. Coverage on new chairs varies by brand and model, so compare the Warranty tab on each page.

Either way, fit matters more than price. Check each chair's recommended height range and the space you have before you choose.
